Comments

I get that today’s society is all about networking.  Social and otherwise.  I understand that humans are social creatures. But . . .

I have read tons of blogs.  Some of them from start to finish, literally.  I have read thousands of comments left by blog readers as well as comments left on journalism and other news organization sites and posts on numerous forums.  I was at one time a forum moderator.

When this blog was started I agonized over whether to allow comments.  I love a good philosophical debate and conversations with someone of a different mind than mine are relished.  What I cannot abide is when a debate or conversation turns in a series of hurled insults and infantile name calling.  After reading so many user comments from other sites, I decided I wasn’t going to allow comments at this time.  And frankly that disheartens me.  I so enjoy a good intellectual conversation.  There is much to be learned in this world.

Now, I’m not saying that I have thousands, hundreds, or even tens of readers.  I really don’t know.  I don’t track statistics.  For the purpose of this writing outlet, it’s not necessary or warranted at this time.  Things may change in the future.

At this point, I want to avoid the trolling.  Maybe, I’m writing this because I realize that I need to avoid it not by insulating myself from it, but learning how to cope with it when it happens.  I am human.
