one of the beautiful things about durango is the ridiculous number of trails within 30 to 45 minutes. i don’t know if any other place in colorado has such abundant access to so many trails so close. the variety of trails goes from short urban trails to long trails. footpath only to multi-use. easy to difficult. in preparation for my colorado trail hike i made some loops and linked other trails together to make some longer hikes. i even planned some off trail routes.
the views never let me down.
summer is pretty much over. snow has already arrived on the mountaintops and the leaves are changing color. i hope to have some time this winter where i can snowshoe a bit. our apartment complex actually has snowshoes available for loan. that’s pretty cool considering a pair costs around $300. i’ve had a few people around this area suggest highly that i take up skiing. i usually tell them i’m not really interested. it has mainly to do with the cost of skiing. from equipment to clothing to lift and slope tickets, i just don’t have any desire to spend the capital necessary to take up that hobby. snowshoeing only requires the snowshoes for the most part. i can wear anything else that i already have. and i have a backpack and trekking poles with snow baskets.
i’m sort of looking forward to seeing a complete fall to winter here and enjoying a lot of the trails in winter white.
